Need: Tools for analyzing human system integration in ship design tend to view human variability as a source of risk. Human variability must also be seen as a source of resilience. New tools are needed to ensure that features in the ship design enhance the viability of the total system and the resilience of the crew to adapt in ways that contribute to ships safety and mission success.
Kern Technology Group was awarded a contract from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to develop an objective, validated total system model of how human variability contributes to ship safety and mission success to aid in the research and development of on-going ONR projects.
